Call me fatalistic, but what's the use of using an already downloaded panel.xml file if we can't contact a controller?

This happens in the AsyncResourceLoader class on Android.

By and large no big difference.

However, there have been requests to run the panel in demo mode where no connection is available (in practice this means you can navigate the screens but no commands will be sent, and polling will fail – and polling should fail gracefully, not in the ugly way it does today).

Since we already cache the images, caching the panel definition should be fairly trivial.

Is it causing any particular complexities?

Not particularly, I was just curious while reworking the AsyncResourceLoader.
