In the UK the Sky satellite TV service is quite popular. The receiver/DVR boxes can be controlled via IP using what appears to be UPnP / DNLA / SOAP (Sky provide iOS and Android apps), so it would be far better to have OpenRemote use this rather than needing an IR transmitter.

There's some information here and a python solution to control the box https://github.com/lgladdy/SkyRemote

Has anyone already successfully integrated this into OpenRemote, or is able to suggest the best approach?

Thanks

Liam

Hello

Just to be clear, I haven't got a Sky box, but I do want to be 'aware' of how it might be done, just in case I get asked in the future.

I found this forum...

Please post your results here, if only to share the pleasure / pain.

Good luck.

It doesn't look like Openremote can cope with supporting uPnP / SOAP in any sensible way. So I'm wondering about using this as a proxy: SkyRemote

It works well from it's command input, but I'm trying to work out how to add a TCP listener to this code so that Openremote could use it to translate and just send simple TCP commands to localhost. Unfortunately I don't know any python yet so I've got a long way to go. Any python experts out there to look at this? Or are there any simpler solutions I've missed?
