doesnt mean a lot to me.Can i access my panel through a url ?i mean not from the same computer .from another computer that has an internet connection .How ?

what about android market ?what does that mean Add > http://<IP of controller>:<port>/controller ? the ip of the controller is local ,how can the phone access it ?

help please ,Thanx

OK from what i ve been reading i access my design if i use this URL http://localhost:8080/webconsole .what if i want to access this page from another pc .i guess it would work if its on the same network but instead of localhost i d have to write the ip of the other pc .Can i access the same URL from a PCout side the local network ?

any ideas or comments?

For accessing your controller from outside you can do either:
1. configure your router port forwarding to make the port 8080 visible through your public IP address;
2. configure VPN access to your local network (many routers or NAS have VPN servers). When running VPN server your controller would have the same LAN address.

You can use either of these solutions, depending which one works for you better.

So is openremote just for local use? even if i use the android app or the iphone does it still run locally ???

As Michal said you have to replace localhost with your public IP address or domain name for example:

http://jonjonas.org:8080/webconsole

or in your android specify

http://jonjonas.org:8080/controller

The controller continues to run on your local machine

what about that beehive ,the path from the designer .is that only for checking out your design ?

Designer is a cloud-service. Beehive is part of that. You do not need that connection to control your system on remote Ipads etc.

ok so if you want to access your system through the internet you have to make a public port .but you cant just open a port of you computer to the public ,there are security issueses !what do you do about that ?

As Michal said set up VPN

Posted by pz1 at Dec 19, 2013 13:20

i see... thank you for clarifying that for me !

Yes, setting up VPN is the most secure method. However, if you go with the port forwarding you can still have some kind of security through password authentication http://www.openremote.org/display/forums/USER+AUTHENTICATION
Mind however, that this will be secure only on secure link, i.e. https and not http.
