Hi,

I installed the openremote ebox image on my ebox. Everything works fine but I still want to install some other software on the ebox. If I do an apt-get update, I get a lot of Ignore and fail alerts. The last line says:
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock

Can somebody help me?

Thanks.

What does it mean? Was this a protection to avoid noobs like me to mess up the initial setup?

exactly

It remounts the file system as read/write. Default is read only. However, apt-get update should be safe, although it can nuke something if you are not prudent (don't fix it if it doesn't break!). After you are done then:

remountro

It is not dangerous per-se, my eBox is already few years in r/w mode up and running. As long as you know what are you doing you'll be OK.
